About the Ladies Circle

Ladies Circle is an organisation for young women between the ages of 18 and 45. It aims to promote friendship through social contact at local, national and international level, and to be of service to the community. For many years Circlers were the wives or partners of Round Tablers but in 1993 the rules were changed and Ladies Circle is now open to any woman under 45.

Circle is all about Fun, Friendship and Fundraising. With friends you can fundraise, by fundraising you make friends, and at the same time you are having fun and raising funds for the community, so it’s like a Circle.

What we do

Have fun and meet new people! Twice a month, on Tuesday evenings, we arrange a social event. It’s a great way of relieving the stresses of work and family demands, and much more fun than a Tuesday night in front of the telly!

Social events might be a trip to the cinema or theatre, going out for a meal, or simply sharing a few bottles of wine at someone’s house. We also organise family events such as sponsored walks and a picnic/rounders day, and more formal events with Round Table, like the annual Area Ball and Ladies Night dinner dance.

What our members all have in common is the need for a varied social life and a desire to put a little bit back into our community.

Who joins and why

Members come from all walks of life and join for many reasons – perhaps as a way to find relaxation and enjoyment, or as a way of participating in the local community. It’s an ideal way for those who have moved into a new area to find new friends of a similar age.

Members include single and married women from a wide variety of occupations: some are professional, some are working or full time mums, some self employed. Often partners are members of Round Table, but many are not.

A good example is the diversity of our current members, including a teacher, a prison governor, a hairdresser, a management trainer, an applications developer and a housewife.

Being a member of Ladies Circle means enjoying the friendship of fellow Circle members nationally and internationally, having fun in doing group activities that you would not have done alone, feeling satisfied in doing charity work and helping people in need, spending a bit of time and energy in giving your life something extra.

Not being a member means missing all that!

Still loving being in Circle even after 14 years! Like Kim, I love wine, red, white or pink and especially fizzy :-) I also love all the friends I've made through Circle over the years and the things we do, even when it's something simple like going to the pub for a meal or a quiz. I am married to Andrew, who's a member of Blackburn Round Table and we have a daughter, Olivia, who's 4.
